Have been a fan for ages, with my ma(sadly deceased) and my grandchildren, some of whom got good grounding in spelling and math.,and my wife and children when we can. Of course we don’t like change, but the ongoing programme is still excellent and great entertainment, and the new team are just different. Just felt I had to point out that the word “BODHRAN” is gaelic, the DH is silent, and the pronunciation should be ‘BOWRAAN’.I’m sure Susie would have known this but maybe was too polite to say.

Please could Rachel avoid having more than one = sign per line as this leads to the first and final numbers not being equal.
It discredits the logic of maths and is a poor example of showing working.
Thanks for sorting out S, F and X and we still miss Des O’Connor’s genuine warmth and real humour.

I am also dismayed at not being able to watch a repeat of Countdown around 5am, as I am at work when it is shown in the afternoon. I am getting withdrawal symptoms! I hope this does not mean something sinister.

I quite agree with you Andy. For those of us who work and can’t make the afternoon show the early morning show starts my brain for the day and Rachel’s clothes, whether you like them or not also helped the sandman go. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring it back.

Well done for spotting the alternative answer to the conundrum but it would not have counted either as an answer to the conundrum or a nine letter word in any of the letters games.

For words to score they have to be in the dictionary used by Countdown, which at the moment is the Oxford Dictionary of English (2nd Edition revised). I have checked and “Pinestraw” is not in it.

As to what would happen if it transpired that there were two valid answers to the conundrum, an ‘official’ one and one which the conundrum setter had not spotted, then I would think that they would have to allow the ‘unofficial’ one.

I wonder if anyone else noticed that the conundrum today (Tues Nov 10th) which actually was RAINSWEPT could have been PINESTRAW. As a keen golfer I saw it in a few seconds; it’s what the Americans call the rough at Augusta (as I am sure you would know Jeff) where the Masters takes place annually. But maybe it is not considered to be an English word. It did make me wonder however what would happen if a contestant came up with a word in the conundrum that was valid but not what was expected?
On a general note: well done both Jeff and Rachel. You had difficult acts to follow and have settled into the roles superbly well. Life would not be the same without Countdown.

Jeff and Rachel are the business. After the initial nerves they have settled down and are, along with suzie are a great team. The contestants are introduced properly EVERYday. The quips by Jeff are cool. Long live Countdown!!
