Earlier this month, Channel 4 courted controversy with the broadcast of Boys and Girls Alone, a four-part documentary series that saw ten boys and ten girls, all aged between eight and eleven, living away from their parents for two weeks. Living in their own separate “villages”, the children were given the freedom to decide everything about the way that they lived. read more

The conflict in Gaza was a subject on many viewers’ minds last month. A Dispatches special, Unseen Gaza, attracted the most appreciative comments of any programme in January, while Channel 4’s decision to broadcast the DEC Gaza appeal was also widely appreciated. Meanwhile, Celebrity Big Brother generated the highest number of complaints for the month. read more

There is a distinct rhythm to my role as viewers’ editor, which is largely dictated by the enormous amount of comments that Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother attract when either show is on air. As our Rated/Slated blog posts show, it consistently attracts the biggest electronic postbag, heading the charts for both compliments and complaints. In the calmer waters of February, I have been following up on two of the issues raised by viewers during the most recent series of Celebrity Big Brother: surprise and disbelief at the identity of the final winner and a continuing desire for a live stream to be broadcast during the time the show is on air. read more
