Big Brother was once Channel 4's biggest show, and I still think it is today, though maybe not by as big a margin as it once was. Ratings for BB are clearly dropping, but Channel 4 only has themselves to blame - their attitude to BB stinks. Axing the twenty-four hour live feed was like ripping the heart out of the show as it is a fundamental factor of the Big Brother format that you are able to follow it twenty four hours a day. That's not to say that viewers should be glued to it for hours on end, but the ability to tune in whenever you want is crucial. Make no mistake, if it was up to producers Endemol, then there would be four feeds and an interactive service accessible via the red button like there was in BB3. The excuse for axing it - that video clips were being viewed more - is a disgrace. It is a further insult to fans that Channel 4 are now blocking numerous videos of the show on YouTube, despite it being said in previous years that they had no problem with it. I accept that now full episodes are being added to iTunes that it may affect Channel 4's profits, so full episodes may be blocked, but it's insulting that clips are being blocked. It's even more insulting that those who upload the adverts are finding them blocked - surely uploads of the adverts just promote the show more? Talking of adverts, the CBB6 advertising campaign was completely sloppy. It was clear Channel 4 just poorly edited over the BB9 adverts. The main problem with the ad campaigns is that it gives viewers no reason to watch - a sequence of flashy graphics does not sell the show to potential new viewers. Even if they had just brought back the Heaven/Hell divide, it would have spiced up the show a little. Channel 4 needs to change its attitude and Endemol need to come up with new ideas for BB10 if Big Brother is to stand any chance of gaining any viewers. Most importantly, however, they need to stop worrying about the complainers and the critics and OFCOM and concentrate on trying to make BB return to its glory days.
