It is a fact that we, like most other organisations, tend to get more letters of complaint than we do of praise from our viewers. But two interesting exceptions to that rule occurred recently – the first was over Russell Brand’s “Ponderland“, and the second was the mini series “Dead Set” on E4.
In the case of Ponderland, there was obviously some concern that Russell Brand’s well publicised misdemeanours on Radio 2 might threaten the broadcasting of his Channel 4 show, Ponderland. Fans of Russell were able to use Facebook and Digital Spy to urge viewers to express their support to Channel 4, as a result of which the emails came flooding in before the new series had even made it on air!
Dead Set seems to have hit a sweet spot with zombie and horror fans, as well as providing anyone involved in the production of Big Brother (even as remotely as the Viewers’ Editor!) with a bit of a chuckle. Not only were there many more emails than is usual for E4, but the vast majority of them were positive. It was nice to see that the series even stimulated a debate between Simon Pegg (of Shaun of the Dead fame) and Charlie Brooker (creator of Dead Set) about the appropriate gait for a zombie! A debate that could run and run……..

I’m proud to say that Dead Set was an exciting and innovative piece of television. Zombie Horror on television programmes is a nice pastiche of the smash-hit horror, 28 Weeks Later. Well done Charlie Brooker!
I watched all of the episodes and I liked the story line however I didn’t like the way that the camera would sometimes go all over the place, it was difficult to tell what was happening sometimes
