Speaking to both our viewer enquiries team and chatting on the forums, many viewers have said they’d like to find out more about the various individuals, charities and groups featured. at the end of each programme some of the secret millionaires get dressed alittle smarter sometimes in a suit,to say their goodbyes but a few like to keep the same appearance and dress the same, why do some change to a suit and tie and some dont ,also does it ever cross your mind that your undercover position could ever become revealed as the programme is becoming more wellknown and is broadcast on a major television channel and at a prime evening slot ,charities may know that you could give them a donation
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FILM EACH SHOW? MORE THAN THE LAST TWO MILLIONARIES GAVE I SHOULD THINK. 30 GRAND WOULD NOT EVEN BUY THEM A CAR.
i work with a group of volunteers to provide holiday actiivities in one of the deprived areas of norwich, we stuggle to obtain funding and wish there was someone to help us
well done to those millionare’s who support people in giving young people a chance of trying some they would not do because of cos,t transport, large families, unemployment, social housing or just not having opportunities
Please can the Secret Millionaire link back to volunteering!!??
Having watched the series the majority of cover stories for the millionaires are that they are making a documentary about volunteering for 10 or so days. The millionaires always seem surprised by how much they get out of donating some of their time to a community project. I would love it if at the end of the show Channel 4 would highlight how a member of the public could find out about getting involved in volunteering. Just highlighting some volunteering websites eg http://www.do-it.org.uk/ or http://www.volunteering.org.uk/ would be a good starting point or mentioning that there are lots of Volunteer Centers across England who have drop in services where you can chat face to face about volunteering.
It just feels like a good opportunity missed!
i was genuinly touched by todays episode (09/09/08), especially the final donation, however, i was ever so slightly more touched by the sad guitar music as the millionaire was sizing up her new home. What is it please? Thanks
As a dedicated fan of the Secret Millionaire and a volunteer for a charity supporting parents of young people with mental health needs, I find that the millionaires taking part in this programme get so much back in return.
(9th September 08) Hilary Devey for example clearly highlighted and showed great emotion as to that of her own family difficulties with her son, this is real life and highlighted that young people who become involved in using drugs and with mental health needs does not just exist in the poorest of families.
I’m sure that the donations she made was much more rewarding than paying out for any therapy or counselling consultations!
We like many other voluntary organisations can only sit and dream that a ’Secret Millionaire’ would land on our doorsteps due to the way local authorities and government distribute funding to voluntary organisations.
Who decides as to what locations that the ’Secret Millionaires’ visit?
What he/she said above!
I work for a Volunteer Centre in County Durham and really do think Channel 4 have missed a trick here. The programme gives volunteering prime time exposure and I’m sure many people would act if there was more signposting to how to go about finding out about voluntary work either at the end of, or within the programme content. It has been encouraging to see a Volunteer Centre featured in last nights show, albeit briefly. In the next series (if there is one planned) I would love to see more about Volunteer Centres. There is nearly always a VC covering every geographical area of the country and we can offer people an impartial brokerage service to help people source voluntary work that inspires them and we support them every step of the way. A percentage of the people we see want to volunteer to help themselves as well as others; they may have recently moved to the area (like the millionaires cover story), or they may have lost a partner, have mental health issues or a disability that limits their options for paid work, they may be recovering alcoholics/drug users - I could go on. The stories of how becoming a volunteer in many of these circumstances and how it can turn someone’s life around is truly inspiring. That said I’d also like to highlight that Volunteer Centres are charities as well relying on funding to get by. What we do is maybe not directly emotive enough for the programme makers to include however we play a massive part in the regeneration of communities and the promotion of local volunteering opportunities - at least give us a plug at the end of the show!
Have just watched Gareth Weedon from Manchester - can’t believe whattight wad he is?? He has just given the Boxing coach £3,000 - having watched the work that the chap did at the boxing club I would have given him £3k myself! even though I cannot afford it. he said ‘I am a multi millionaire’ and then gave him the equivalent of about 50p….I hope he is emabarrassed when he watches the show tonight!!
I just want to wish Mel, the young girl doing the college course all the best with her studies! Use it to your advantage Mel and maybe one day too you can sponsor someone who was in your position
I have been trying for ages to find out what is the title of a piece of background music which is frequently used on secret millionaire. It was used again on last nights show (16/09/08). It is a piece of music with only a piano in it.
When watching the Secret Millionaire last night (16/09/08) i heard a piece of piano music about half way through the program, have heard this before and would like to know what it is called.
I was very disappointed with this weeks’ Secret Millionaire. By my calculations Mr Gavin Wheeldon, who told everyone involved that he was worth ‘ millions’ gave away about £50,000! Although I appreciate that large amounts of money are not key to helping people I felt, in this instance, he was on this programme for some free advertising of his company, rather than actually giving away some of his vast fortune! The £3000 he gave to the boxing club was an insult to the fantastic man who ran it. Additionally he could have bought a house for the woman who ran the hostel and thus prevented her from spending money upgrading someone elses property. I see from comments above that I am not the only one who feels this was not an appropriate ‘millionaire’ to feature. I must say that everyone else you have featured has been very altruistic and the programme is excellent
There was a song on the episode featuring Hilary Devey - just as she was getting dressed up smartly to go out and give her money there was an ad break and when it went back to the program there was this song that I want to know the title of - can anyone assist with identifying it?
thanks so much
hal
Several weeks ago one of your millionnaires (a lady) gave money to fund a music workshop for young people in Rochdale. She had a vision of probably taking the idea and creating it across the country in deprived areas.
I presently am co-ordinator of a mentoring project for 18-25 year olds in Coventry and have got together a group of young people who want to set up a workshop to give access to kids on the street where they can come and hopefully get away from crime and knives.
I’m not sure where we are going with this and wanted to know if there were further details on how her expansion is progressing beciase I would like to do much the same with what we have already set up - can I make contact with the present project managers?
Dave
The Secret Millionaire, With Hilary (Rochdale) There Was A Song Just Before Either The First Break Or The Second. I Love It And Really Want To Know What It Is. Its A Sad Song But Peacefull
watching secret millionaire catch up show this week you featured a millionaire who after her experience set up an independent company offering funding application advice and expertise unfortunately missed name of her company and as a small neighbourhood project would be really interested in any info they could offer . Would be great if you could forward info . Many thanks
I believe Secret Millionaire is one of the single most worthwhile programmes on television currently. Not only do incredibly worthwhile charities and individuals benefit, but the ‘millionaires’ themselves seem to really benefit emotionally from there altruistic acts - in such a way that you sense they would continue to offer help and support (both financial and expertise) because of the good feeling given them.
The show is a real antidote to other reality shows that regularly draw out the worst of our instincts and behaviours.
What prompts me to write though is tonights episode. Did the producers / researchers just not try for this episode. The ‘millionaire’ seemed a nice enough guy, maybe he even thought he was giving money to very worthy people. The separated father I would see as the most deserving, the money could really have made a difference to his, and his childrens lives - but to encourage him to blow it all on a long haul holiday! He may have gone to Borneo, but he’s still sleeping on the floor when his kids come round. As for the other two, they really made cringe. Our millionaire basically invested in two commercial businesses. Both couples were far from those in previous episodes who were selflessly giving there time, and even their money, to help others less fortunate than themselves. They were looking to run commercial businesses, in one case - badly. Are there no charities or voluntary organisations, schools, etc in the Thetford region could have benefitted from the millionaires patronage and helped a much larger, or more worthy, section of the community. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where £30,000 could be distributed and fewer people could benefit.
Producers / researchers - please put the work in (like you have done in all the previous episodes) and ensure our communities really benefit, don’t be lazy.
Im desperate to know what the peice of music is The Secret Milioniare uses so often! I love it to peices, and know it begins with the letter H and has lots of O’s but I really want to know what it actual name is!
Hi all, and thanks for your comments… I’m the web producer for The TV Show and have been trying, on your behalf, to find out what music is used on this series of The Secret Millionaire… So far, my detective work has uncovered: José Gonzalez - ‘Crosses’, Sigur Ros - ‘Hoppipola’, Thomas Newman - ‘Any Other Name’ and Air - ‘Talisman’… I’m also trying to chase full details from the production company, so will hopefully be able to reveal all soon!
J would like to see another clip of Ben Way on the website. He is our favorite secret millionaire. The programme is really great value 5 hope they run another run cos the money people find value as well as those who benefit from their gifts
pls i wii like to play who want to be a millioniare tv game show. site nigeria
Hi Jodie … any more news on music used during the series? Thanks …
Yes! Some good news to follow… stay tuned!
I love secret millionaire although it seems that the ‘projects’ are chosen well beforehand it is good telly. I thought Hilary Devey was fantastic and would love to meet her. She inspired me and I think she must inspire many
I absolutely love this programme. It really cheers me up to see the millionaires helping those specail people.
It really is like there is a god.
We all wish a millionaire would come and help us all with our problems, but most problems are self inflicted and can be corrected by yourself if you take a more positvie approach.
These people didnt get rich by being negative or defeatist. They worked hard for what they have and they can see that in the specail people they help.
It’s heartwarming to watch and i often end up in tears.
reading through some of your points,i was also shocked that the millionaire didnt pay for the whole roof etc,but didnt he come in and get the work done at his own cost?I liked him he did the most sensible thing with his money.I was wishing however he would buy those houses that were up for demolision and build up the area again, thats what he does isant it?help those poor people.seemed a shame he has put new windows and heating in one house, when it could be demolished soon, but again he is working hard to stop the council.
I found this one a bit strange.
I loved how he did the little girls room up too, that was sweet.
Ibet we dont know half what those millionaires do to help these people after the show has aired,i bet they do loads.
I watched the episode of secret millionaire with jill from west ham,and i was in tears and couldnt stop..its so nice to see people with great wealth share with those less fortunate than them although she may have really earnt her money she didnt mind at all helping others….funny as iam trying to kick start a business of my own but have no money capital or much at all but it doesnt stop me from thinking of it every day when i wake up how nice it would be to pay off my small mortgage etc….i think that people like jill should be given a medal after all you dont see many wealthy people doing things like she did do you!!!! really touched me every bit of the program!!!!:)
How can I be considered for help? I an61 disabled liveing on ssi of 637.00 a month.everything I have has been given to me by friends…Took in a roomate to get extra $ he turned out to be a murderer….help
HELLO TO THE STAFF AND PRODUCER(S) OF THIS REALITY SHOW THE SECRET MILLIONAIRE! I WOULD NOT NORMALLY TAKE THE TIME TO COMMENT ON THESE TYPE WEB SITES BECAUSE IT JUST HARD TO BELIEVE THE FORTUNATE IN THESE SITUATIONS HAVE THE TIME TO COME DOWN TO EARTH AND REALLY SEE WHAT THA MIDDLE AND POOR CLASS HAVE TO GO THROUGH. I HAD TO COMMENT THIS ONE PARTICULAR TIME BECAUSE I HAVE WATCHED AN EPISODE AS I READ THROUGH UR SITE AND COMMENTS. I CAN SAY IT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES TO SEE HOW THERE IS HOPE OUT THERE FOR THE PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONALITY AND ALL OVER THE WORLD. IT WAS ALSO PROMISING WHEN I SEE HOW THE SECRET MILLIONAIRE TOOK THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMUNITY THEY VISITED. BUT WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THESE TYPE OF SHOWS IS HOW DOES THIS COME ABOUT, WHAT BRINGS UP THE IDEA THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WEALTHY WANTS TO HELP THE MIDDLE OR POOR. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE POOR AND MIDDLE CLASS TO DONATE TOO? I WOULD IMAGINE THERES PLACES OVER THE US THAT WOULDN’T NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE SOME MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE AS ME TO HAVE A WAY TO VIEW THE SHOW. LIKE I SAID ITS PROMISING AND GIVES HOPE BUT COMING FROM A PERSON LIKE ME IT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE. BUT ALL OF MY 29 YEARS WATCHING TV I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF A SUCH THING HAPPENING HERE! I WOULD LIKE TO SAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR THE TIME AND DEDICATION YOU PUT INTO SOCIETY! MAYBE ONE DAY SECRET MILLIONAIRE WILL REACH THIS SIDE OF THE WORLD AND TOUCH A COUPLE OF HEARTS IN NEED! GOD BLESS AND KEEP BLESSING
I would like to know if the Millionaires have learned a valuable lesson. There are many people who are having a hard time. I pray that they will continue to help others.
March 29th 2009 - tonights ’secret millionaire’ was excellent. Not a religion in sight and genuine humanity - superb. It’s not reality - it’s life and reaches those parts of the heart and soul that others never reach enough said.
Does anyone know what the guitar music is that is played throughout April 26th’s episode (in hull) Particularly in part 1 where he’s talking about his time at school as a kid? Great epsidoe by the way..
Thanks a lot
