I have had the delightful experience of visiting the piston-less, wire-less, valve-less, transistor-less headquarters of Google UK.
Yes, I’ve been right inside www.google.co.uk. And it is a quite extraordinary experience, verging on cultish. But very benign.

The Forbes world’s billionaires list is out. And let us shed a tear for the haemorrhage in the amount of money they between them control, from $4.4bn to $2.4bn.
This list immediately raises the question of what they do, and what they do for us. You see the Gateses and others in it and immediately one thinks of… Well, what does one think of? One thinks of philanthropy. What enormously generous people these are.

TEHRAN, IRAN – Our team in Iran this week is all-female – the producer is Sarah, the camera operator is Philippa and then there’s me. Which has raised no eyebrows at all with interviewees or policemen but is causing a little consternation at our hotel.
The problem is our translator, Nasser. When he’s in the room helping us translate taped interviews, we have to leave the door open so anyone can see that we have our heads covered in the presence of a man who is not a relative. But the chap who came in to vacuum the carpet in the early afternoon was obviously shocked to see such a decadent scene. read more
