International consensus is slow - climate Armageddon isn't. Let's console ourselves: far from being 'to blame' for climate-catastrophe, we are just the latest inheritors of it. If the Industrial Revolution started in the 1750s, that's how-many generations of pols/hacks/consumers who couldn't give-a-stuff. Yes, it will be a nightmare for our kids/grandkids, but it's not entirely our rap. At least we noticed Rome was already burning.

Forget the US, which has become the international scapegoat for the Green Lobby. Just look at the current and future economic forecasts....while the US shows negative GDP, China and India are still rocketing ahead, depression or not. Now, when you consider enviornmental standards in China make the old Warsaw Pact seem clean by comparison, you can see why the G8 meet was a waste of time.

"..the prime minister points out that the G8 signed up to what he calls a “historic” target of 80 per cent cuts.."

all mouth, most likely he'll be dead by 2050.

why not a smaller target, sooner? because he cannot deliver.

This is idiotic. Say the USA sets an emissions target but does not achieve them. So what? What is anybody going to do about it? Send the US a bill perhaps or just glare. There are no consequences. It’s a joke and they all know it. But they will have their discussions and then have a fancy gourmet lunch.
