Latest update from the Speaker hustings where potential candidates for the job are speaking.

Sir Alan Beith started the Speaker hustings at 3pm and talked about Parliament occasionally meeting elsewhere in the country.

Parmjit Dhanda then talked about something similar – and impressed two Tory MPs standing near me enough to suggest he should be on the Labour front bench again.

Richard Shepherd says he is the “back to the future” candidate to restore Parliament’s standing.

His rhetoric has something of the nineteenth century about it so you may be surprised to hear he’s the only candidate so far with a campaign video put together by some of his supportive councillors.

There are about two dozen MPs here to listen… Two hours has been set aside.

John Bercow is still the favourite with a big Labour block vote but this isn’t over yet.
