I broke my rule and appeared in underpants

I crossed channels this morning to ITV. A few months back I was contacted by the Prostate Cancer Campaign to be asked whether I would join my first cousin, Peter Snow, and my first cousin once removed, Dan Snow, to front an awareness-raising campaign.

Although there is no history of it our family, there is thought to be a genetic link in the manifestation of the disease. But I must admit, I was also motivated by realising that in our adult lives, Peter, Dan, and I have never been photographed together.

For the campaign photo-shoot, we pitched up at a studio where Marks & Sparks, (who are backing the campaign) had laid on some clothes for us to be shot in. As each of us is in excess of 6ft 4, this was no mean challenge for M&S.

I also broke my golden rule of never being photographed in underpants and certainly never in a “high street” tie. So these days you can go into the men’s department at M&S and find these improbable mannequins adorned in the best of what we used to call St Michael’s. Not sure whether we still do…

So this morning were together on TV for the first time ever on This Morning. An odd event to be sure – they seemed to want us to hang around down there for an age.

I suspect it provided a greater insight into the ageing process than into prostate cancer.

Don’t worry – every one of your works has been respectable and admirable, even appearing in your underpants!

I miss Tomorrow’s World. I remember watching it as a child with Peter Snow, i even used to read the magazine, why did they ever stop it?

Oh my God, yet another reason to regret being an ex pat! Apart from the drowning pound, that is. Will have to send my daughter into M&S with her camera. Well done you Snow mob.

I was surprised to hear there was a family connection. I’d never given it a thought for some reason, but one learns something every day…

I find myself not worrying about having a heart-attack or something these days. If it happens it happens. If I’m on my own at the time I probably wouldn’t even bother dialing 999 – assuming that I could get to the phone.

Life’s not much to write about these days, but the Blogs help !

I know there’s a family connection. My father, both his brothers and we suspect his father had prostate cancer. At the age of 57 it was found in me during a routine checkup of my general health. After surgery I’m now fit as the proverbial but tell all men at 50 Get that PSA checked!!
