New Channel4.com: a month’s results
9 Comments
When you spend a year re-doing a web site like Channel4.com it is with some trepidation. No matter how much “business modelling” you do, the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is usage.
All the essential components of the new Channel4.com were in place on April 1st. So we now have a full month’s data and it turns out to have gone very well.
In April we had 45% more visits and 35% more page views than in the same month last year. And programme views were 110% up in a month! I know The Inbetweeners is good but even so …
If you’re using Channel4.com more than you did – or are a new user – thank you. You’ve made our day.

Why do you keep sending this then:
The red button 24-hour streaming facility was discontinued prior to the last
series of CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER and we have no plans to reintroduce this
service for the forthcoming summer edition of BIG BROTHER.
However, streaming will be available on both E4 and Channel 4 late
night/early morning and we will be showing all the other great shows that
make up the BIG BROTHER experience, like BIG BROTHER’S LITTLE BROTHER AND
BIG BROTHER’S BIG MOUTH as well as the latest clips from the house on our
dedicated Big Brother website.
We appreciate that you are disappointed by this decision, but we hope that
despite the lack of the red button service, you will enjoy this years’
series.
Nevertheless, please be assured that your comments have been noted and
logged. This log is distributed throughout Channel 4 for all to read.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate all
feedback from our viewers; complimentary or otherwise.
Regards,
Penny Watson

@Supakeyboard. I’m not sure how your comment relates to the new Channel4.com site results. Nevertheless I’m sorry you’re disappointed that there’ll be no red-button streaming for BB10.

The design of the new site is awful. It’s inconsistent, cluttered and ugly.
The ideas behind parts of the site such as simplifying the navigation, stripping programme pages down to basics, the introduction of more interactivity and the development of the catch-up service is great, but the execution is atrocious. If the redesign was done in-house sack the designer, if it was taken external; sack the company and ask for the money back.
I’m surprised you have let the site get in such a state. When C4 usually does design whether it’s the re-brand or programme packages it’s always excellent.

@Dean Sorry you don’t like it. I won’t be sacking anyone as the response to the new site design has been overwhelmingly positive.

What a shame there will be no live coverage on TV… I think it’s a bad move to expect people to sit in font of their computer watching live streaming… You have taken away from the viewers the choice to actually watch when they can some of the raw footage from the show. Perhaps we have been spoilt in the past. Unforrtunately I think viewing figures will fall steadily and you will just become another contrived show.
The clue is in the name “Big Brother” Perhaps the name needs changing to “Big Brother at a time to be advised by channel 4….”

Hi
The new website is appalling and its impossible to know where to go to find a programme from the Home Page, when the HP is wasted with a huge photograph.

@Lauren sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately it’s not a view expressed by a vast majority of our users, either when we performed user testing on the initial designs, or borne out by our current stats. The big Programmes button on the homepage is where most people look for a programme. Followed by using the suggestive search box in the header.

I dont mind the new site even though I prefered the previous format, would be even better if I could get the programmes to play, 90% of the time I have problems with playback which didnt used to happen before. please dont become like Itv where Ive given up even trying to watch as they never work!!!
