Live from the Gaza conflict’s ceasefire tag

The Israeli military resumes fighting on Sunday, saying that Hamas militants had ignored a 24-hour humanitarian ceasefire. Another ceasefire is due to start at 2pm local time (12pm GMT). Hamas has agreed to the truce.

At least three deaths have been reported in the renewed tank and artillery bombardment, with heavy shelling reported east of Gaza City.

Israel had said it would extend the truce, which began at 8am (0500 GMT), by four hours, but Hamas said it had not agreed to this.

Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu says Hamas had violated its own ceasefire during an interview with CNN. “They are firing at us as we speak”, he said.
