Nathan Stephens’ Dream Shattered

World Champion GB javelin thrower Nathan Stephens failed to qualify for the F57 finals yesterday after falling foul of a technicality in the rules.
A teary eyed Stephens, who has been best by injury since January, claimed that judges had misinterpreted the rules around ‘lift’.
‘Lift’ is when a javelinist raises his feet from the floor during a throw. Stevens argued that in previous competitions he has been allowed to raise his feet from the floor because his buttocks don’t leave the seat as he throws.
It will be four more years before Stephens gets another chance to reclaim his title as the world’s top F57 javelinist. Watch here:
