From Gaza: life under Israeli bombardment

My friend is trapped in the middle of the fire zone in Gaza – but she isn’t the only one, as I have been finding out today.

On Tuesday she described what life was like living under the “hellish” airstrikes over Gaza. Below Adeem explains her relief of being still alive after another night of shelling.

“What a night! I’m surprised I’m still able to communicate with you and that we’re still alive. The shelling was too heavy plus the smell of the shelling is so weird… it made us sick.

We are all OK and still alive. I don’t know how many people got killed by this craziness.

I feel as if I’m repeating myself. It’s getting worse. I keep imagining myself having this conversation with the soldier who presses this small button and bomb.

I want to tell him that those who are being bombed are normal people like him and his family.

We are not aliens, we are ordinary individuals who love life and we still have dreams and that by pressing that button these dreams can be shattered in seconds.

I want to ask him how can he go home and still be able to play with his children. Make love with his wife?

How can he live? Does he see the images of burnt bodies in Gaza? Does he see the toys and children books under the rubble?”
