House of Lords – resignations before reform?

Mark Menzies, PPS to Energy Minister, Charles Hendry, threatened to resign over Lords reform at this week’s meeting of the Tory backbench 1922 Committee. There were about 80 MPs attending I hear. About 20 or so spoke. Only one spoke in favour of the government position – to push a Lords reform bill through which phases in an 80 per cent elected second chamber.

I’m told the spirit of the meeting was that David Cameron should tell Nick Clegg where he could put his Lords reforms. Somewhere quite dark was the general gist, I think.

Here’s a short film we put out on Easter Monday which has Tories and Lib Dems forecasting the Westminster equivalent of plague and pestilence if the PM continues with his reforms to assuage Nick Clegg. This one will run and run.
