Ireland finds billions of ‘lost’ euros

If you were an Irish taxpayer you might have thought that, as you go through tough times to get the economy back on track, your government will be paying special attention to pluses and minuses in the government accounts.

Not quite so. An “accounting error” has just thrown up 3.6bn euros that were accidentally put in the wrong column in accounts. It’s all here in the Irish Times. As for the Greeks, they get the chance to go to their first ever G20 summit of the world’s richest nations, albeit not quite in the circumstances they might have liked.

The Greek PM has been summoned for a chat with Chancellor Merkel, President Sarkozy, the IMF and euro institutions in Cannes tomorrow. Quite who will be the prime minister by tomorrow afternoon isn’t 100 per cent certain.
