Cameron prepares for turbulent time

David Cameron will be in the air in the few hours time, whizzing back to prepare himself for tomorrow’s statement.

Lord Justice Leveson has given some thought to how he wants to structure his inquiry and who he wants to sit on his panel.

There’ll be announcements on the former and possibly on the latter.

There could also be the results of Sir Gus O’Donnell’s review of how transparency on contacts between government and media executives should work (Should phone calls be included? Should there be any guidance on the content of the conversations? Headings at least?) and we could get something retrospective on David Cameron’s contacts that goes beyond the last year, already published.

By the way, around the Mayor’s office you get a strong whiff that people would like the next Commissioner of the Met to be a woman.

That, the thinking runs, is the best chance of breaking the culture of beers with the newspaper mates.

Watching Sue Akers’ evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee last week and comparing it with, say, Andy Hayman’s, to pluck a name from the air, only cemented the feeling.
