Cameron: "I'm a salesman"

Gary Gibbon Political Editor

David Cameron says polls narrowing is all part of elections, he never thought he’d get this victory “on a plate.”

It’s a “look no notes” production again. He’s decided (risky one this) to say he’s a “salesman,” as Gordon Brown derides him, and proud of it.

He can’t wait to start zipping round the world on planes full of business people telling the world Britain is open for business.

David Cameron says, in what sounds like part of the re-think that’s been chewed on behind the scenes, that the “change” he wants people to vote for in a few weeks time is “not vague,” “not undefined.”

He closes with a personal bit. “I have what it takes,” he says.

The self-proclaimed salesman says there should be no more soft soaping, slogans or soundbites and he’s trying to grab back the mantle of Mr Optimism.

He threw in a reference to immigration controls to keep the troops happy.

He ended with a call to win it for Britain.

The ovation, wifely kiss all done. It wasn’t his most confident performance I’ve seen but he didn’t slip up, mis-speak or corpse, all presumably risks that have kept the unscripted outings to a minimum.

Win it for Britain to me means protecting our shores against illegal immigration and controlling legal immigration .It also means wresting control of our laws from Europe and The Human Right lawyers and European advocates.I am not sure Cameron will do that

Now look here DC, I’ve said several times on various newsey blogs that Gordon comes across as a Double Glazing Salesman most of the time, i.e. we can’t believe a word he says as he’ll do anything for the sale (i.e a vote).

The last thing we need is another salesman thank you.

Can’t you aim to be something a bit more reputable instead…?

No I don’t mean Banker, Solicitor, Estate Agent or Dentist (or politician) actually.

    We need something completely different.

We need somebody inspirational, an astronaut baldly going where nobody has gone before …

Any change after 14 yrs of New Liebour is good.
If the tories DO get in, (and they have the media to beat as well as NL), on past evidence they will AT LEAST leave a surplus when their term is up.
If in doubt, look at the facts, you don`t have to agree with them.
In 1979.tories took over. were left in a terrible mess by Labour. (Remember the IMF Labour bailout?)
1997, John Major left a modest SUPLUS.
What is Genius Brown leaving behind?
Wardead/injured/afghanistan/Belmarsh/ uncountable massive debt WE have to pay off/Liberty almost gone/IneptJobsworths who can`t be sacked, Quangoes who can`t be challenged, and innocents killed as a result,

I agree, it IS time for a change. If you want to knock Cameron as a salesman, AT LEAST he wants to sell Britain, not scuttle our values and deny British history to our kids on the altar of Political Correctness.
Britain needs a new Bill of Rights/ Written Constitution, not a government which defies Supreme Court rulings!
Politicians need to acknowledge they work for us! Brown and cronies don`t believe this. Give the Tories a chance, prove polls wrong. What have we got to lose?

The only party that speaks for me on Europe is UKIP,but i refuse to waste my vote on a one issue party that can never form a government .As for Labour ,they are a busted flush who aught to be dead in the water by now .I can not believe someone can truly support a party that once again has ruined Britain ,yet they will and if they succeed in winning will just make things worse, worse and worse..
As for the Liberals , who??????.As much as i do not rate Cameron , i am a Tory and i do believe they are the only party that can run the economy and eventually get us out of the mess we are in .

It is easy to blame Labour for the mess the country is in but i have lived long enough to remember the mess Selwyn Lloyd left us in in the early 1960s and the Tories landed Labour at the 1964 election with debt after 13 wasted years .
This inevitably led to devaluation of the pound and the country had another election in 1966 which sealed the fate for the Tories until 1970 .
If we let David Cameron in after believing his soundbites maybe things are bad at the moment but the gap between the rich and the poor will get worse as those on high incomes will pay proportionately less tax .
The Tory party conference was a glitzy show but if in office we will see cuts in key areas however much they promise to preserve the NHS as an example to pay for these handouts .
