My final week of cooking has me conclude (for now) my culinary journey with quick tikka salmon with cucumber yoghurt. What a 3 week journey it has been – traversing the cookery globe: plunging the depths of the North Sea in week one, followed by a visit to Tuscan Italy and now culminating with a stop-off in the sub continent of….East London! Never in a million years would I previously have considered getting stuck into Indian cuisine, but with the J-dogg as my leader I’m primed to tackle it. read more

This week I opted for the quick salmon tikka with cucumber yoghurt. The title made it sound a bit adventurous for us. Salmon with a curry theme sounded unusual compared to the other recipes we’d tried and to be honest I was a bit wary. read more

For my final foray into Jamie’s campaign I cooked quick tikka salmon with cucumber yoghurt, all served on warm naan bread. I’ve never cooked anything like this before and I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to it, mainly because I wasn’t a big fan of curry or salmon. I say wasn’t because now I am. read more

For my second attempt at ‘Pass it on’ I opted for the mini pasta shells with creamy smoked bacon and pea sauce. It sounded delicious but turned out to be trickier than I’d thought it was going to be, mostly because of my experimenting. read more

Week two of the Ministry of Food sees me cooking Parmesan chicken breasts – ah yes, the tricky second album! Now, I like chicken, I’m a big fan – to me it is always a ‘healthy’ option: my chicken burger may be deep-fried and lathered in enough dressings as to make Messrs. Hellmann and Heinz weep, but hey, it’s chicken, gotta be good for me; fixing an egg and bacon sandwich? – stick a piece of chicken in there and watch the weight disappear! Yet, despite this poultry-partiality this is my virgin effort at cooking chicken breasts. read more

For my second crack at cooking one of Jamie’s recipes I opted for the Parmesan chicken breasts with crispy posh ham. Neither I nor the other two Johns (our cooking team is ‘the three Johns’) had ever cooked this kind of dish before and we were a bit unsure about the ham. It tasted a little bit saltier than ordinary ham, a bit like posh bacon – it was a bit too thin for bacon but not quite the texture of ham. read more

Both my children have grown up and left home so it’s just me and the missus on a daily basis but family come to dinner at the weekend. I’d probably describe my cooking experience as limited and I’d have to say I’m not very adventurous.

Decisions, decisions!!! Upon checking out the Ministry of Food recipe choices, I decide to choose the good old fashioned fish pie (any excuse to tip my cap to Captain Birdseye). Surely a proud moment in any parent’s life – hearing their youngest utter the immortal line: “Mum, Dad…..I baked a pie!” – cue fanfare and mackerel shaped bunting. read more

I don’t really have much time to spend in the kitchen, having two young children and I don’t get time to try out new recipes and experiment. But I definitely find it more rewarding cooking from scratch rather than using a packet or jar. What I don’t enjoy is chopping all the vegetables as it seems to take me a long time but maybe this is because I don’t do it often enough. read more
