Opening an English restaurant in Italy – a recipe for disaster?

In this brand new Channel 4 series, restauranteur and entrepreneur Vito Cataffo sets out on an epic quest, staking his personal fortune and his hard won reputation on a deep-set personal belief: that British food is the best in the world.

Vito launches a culinary crusade to Italy, the country of his birth. The series follows Vito as he finds a failing Italian restaurant, rescues and renovates it, and then sets about transforming it into a shrine to British food.

From managing the building project to navigating the murky world of Italian bureaucracy; from training-up local chefs and waiting staff to his exacting standards, to capturing the hearts and stomachs of the Italian public with Great British grub, Vito is facing the most daunting crusade of his life.

Starts 13th August, 8:30pm on Channel 4

British food is the best in the world? bahahahahah… I think Vito and Channel 4 is mad and delusional. Oh and Vito….YOU FAKE ITALIAN. You’re pathetic and senile. When I see you the first word that comes to mind is “sleazeball”.

I was really enjoying this programme until Vito turned over the owner of the restaurant.
A deal sealed with a handshake, what’s uniquely Bolognese about that!
In my book that’s a recognised agreement the world over, and Vito broke it, he should have had the place checked over before he agreed the price.
Seemed to me to be a simple case of good ol’ guzundering on Vito’s part, completely dishonourable.
I’d advise all the English suppliers to get any agreements with Vito in writing!

Restaurants make money by finding local products, cooking and selling to local people, NOT freezing fish and steaks and putting on a truck to be driven across the world , this would take away most of your profits and dont make any sense, this show is more about Vito trying to become famous.

I was facinated by this programme. I live in Lincoln and over the years have had dealings with Vito so found the whole experience of watching him tackle this project an absolute joy to watch and was thrilled for him when it all took off – the best of luck to him and his staff and all those involved in his new venture.

I find this a tremendous concept! The British public have been doctrinated with International cuisine for decades – it is now time to promote our cuisine. Bear in mind though, this should be demonstrated at the highest possible standards . Our foodie reputation is at stake….
