Faithless Schools and Schoolboy Humour

Professor Richard Dawkins has a new bee in his bonnet. Not a recently discovered species of the superfamily Apoidea, which you might imagine would intrigue an evolutionary biologist nicknamed Darwin’s Rottweiler, but the increase in the number of faith schools in Britain.

According to Professor Dawkins, the blame for the rise of what he regards as a dangerously divisive system of schooling can be laid firmly at the door of New Labour. In this clip from Faith Schools Menace? he expands further:

If you missed the programme on More4 this week (which, let’s face it, is possible), you’ll be relieved to know you can watch it right here on 4oD.

Of course, if Professor Dawkins really wanted to see a faithless school in action, he could do worse than investigate the antics at Rudge Park Comprehensive, home of The Inbetweeners.

After wading through Series 1 and 2 on 4oD, he could take E4’s brand new personality quiz to see which Inbetweener he most resembled. (My money’s on Will rather than Jay…)

Series 3 of the Bafta-winning show starts in September, but in the meantime here’s a prequel video of what the boys got up to during the holidays:

Of course, you don’t need to be of school age to be juvenile. Or delinquent. Pete Griffith is a case in point. He’s just an average, possibly slightly below average, sort of guy. Except for the two top-flight sport pundits who observe, analyse and comment on every move he makes…

You can witness the resulting chaos in Pete Versus Life on a Friday night, sandwiched between the two Big Brothers, or watch the catch-up shows on 4oD.

Here on the website, you can even get an expert analysis of your own life from Colin and Terry. Provided, that is, that you’ve got a ‘Facebook profile’. Whatever that is…

We’ve also got some exclusive video interviews with the cast, such as this one with Rafe Spall, aka Pete. It’s all just acting, apparently…
