Pure Genius

This week, Channel 4 celebrates some great Britons in Genius of Britain. Leading scientific figures of today, including Stephen Hawking, James Dyson and David Attenborough, tell the stories behind some of history’s greatest advances.

Here on the website, we have exclusive video of a Q&A session at the Science Museum, chaired by Krishnan Guru-Murthy. In this clip, Stephen Hawking extols the trail-blazing of his ingenious predecessors – and demonstrates some fine comic understatement…

Elsewhere on the site, you can delve into an intriguing Timeline – illustrated by the engineers at Dyson – to discover some unusual facts about our scientific heritage, and revisit our Live Event, which featured the wit and wisdom of Professor Jim Al-Khalili.

From highly intelligent Britons to Peter Andre, who is, of course, Australian.

Monday saw the tea-time launch on Channel 4 of the brand new 5 O’Clock Show, a lively mix of features and interviews, which is currently being guest-presented by Jordan’s erstwhile squeeze. Not sure exactly what time it airs, but you can probably find out in our TV Listings

Back to gifted Brits, and our web producer for the Ricky Gervais Show has done the world a service by starting to compile the random ramblings of the remarkable Karl Pilkington. Here, for instance, is Karl’s considered opinion on jellyfish:

‘They are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It’s more useful.’

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch the animated show on Friday nights on Channel 4, and right here on 4oD.

And if it’s more genius you’re after, then meet Michael. This 11-year-old speaks seven languages, plays two musical instruments, and has published one novel…

Michael features in Child Genius, a landmark documentary series that follows the lives of some of the UK’s most gifted children. How will they develop, and what unique problems are faced by such talented prodigies? Find out, by watching the series on 4oD. Enjoy…
