It’s the proud boast of Film4 that they don’t just show films, they make ‘em, too. The Scouting Book for Boys, which was part funded by Film4 Productions, went on general release this weekend. This bittersweet coming-of-age story was written by Jack Thorne, whose credits include Skins and the mighty Shameless, and features rising stars Thomas Turgoose and Holliday Grainger. You can watch more clips and read features, including the director’s shooting diary, at Film4.com. The Scouting Book for Boys is the directorial debut feature of Tom Harper, who directed E4’s smash (and grab) hit drama, Misfits. If you missed this unique study of teenage superheroes with Asbos, you can still watch it on 4oD.
The new series of Misfits starts filming in May, and you can see it this autumn on E4. In the meantime, here’s a reminder clip from the first series, featuring the reliably offensive Nathan meeting his fellow young offenders.
May also sees the UK release of another eagerly awaited directorial debut from Film4, Four Lions. As previously mentioned, this jihadist comedy from Chris Morris has been creating waves since its premiere at the Sundance Festival.
I can’t think why, can you?
