Goldman Sachs help Facebook raise $1.5bn at a $50bn valuation
As was speculated, and debated at great length on Channel 4 News two weeks ago, Facebook with the help of Goldman Sachs and Russian investment fund Digital Sky Technologies has raised $1.5bn to fund future growth on a valuation of $50bn.

I turned up on BBC Radio 4 today, coincidentally on one of my favourite listens, Steve Hewlett’s Media Show. While there I joked that deciding to leave Facebook and joining some other rival that might crop up in the future would be a like learning Esperanto and expecting your friends to understand you. I thought this was quite funny but also pretty accurate. Critics of my blog and my appearance on Channel 4 News argue that something else will pop-up and do to Facebook exactly what Google did to Yahoo. But they are so wrong.
