tsunami status updates Facebook map reveals how news of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami spread

Facebook has today released this fascinating graphic that shows how news of the disaster hitting Japan has spread around the world.

The social network recorded more than 4.5 million status updates from 3.8 million users that related to ‘Japan’, ‘earthquake’ and ‘tsunami’.

It’s interesting as it is through Facebook that many heard of the devastating disaster rather than through conventional news sources.
