The trailers started last night for George Clarke’s brand new property show, The Home Show. I’ve seen the first couple of episodes and so far I love what is a very refreshing format. A family with a home they’re not particularly happy with, or that doesn’t serve their needs, hands George a cheque for whatever they can afford and pretty much completely trust him to redesign their home for them, with (so far) ingenious results. read more

As the UK housing market continues to decline, leading property search site Rightmove announced today that they’ll be axing 20% of their staff. With 2009 house price predictions not looking too rosy, and experts predicting mid-2010 as the earliest potential pickup point for house prices, Rightmove’s 300 current staff will find out shortly whether they’ll still have jobs. read more

According to a poll by games manufacturer EA, The Bullring in Birmingham is the UK’s ugliest building. Maybe I’m biased, being Brummie born and bred, but I can name countless buildings far uglier than my home city’s much-lauded and internationally acclaimed shopping centre. read more

An estimated 80,000 households per year have just been saved the potential nightmare of obtaining planning permission as new planning rules came into force today. Rules regarding the footprint and volume of new additions and loft conversions have been relaxed, as have rules governing new paving and driveways. read more
